Windshield damage is not uncommon. Although windshields are designed to be durable, they can be damaged from things like rocks hitting the glass or the car being involved in an accident. If your car does have a damaged windshield, these are some of the things that you should not do.
1. Ignore the Windshield Damage
If the windshield damage doesn't seem too serious, if you're really busy with other things in your life or if you don't have much money, then you might be tempted to ignore your windshield damage. This is not the best thing to do for a few reasons, including the fact that the damage will probably just get worse and the possibility that you could get a traffic citation. Instead, as soon as you notice that there is any type of windshield damage -- even if it is minor -- you should take your car to an auto glass shop as soon as possible.
2. Put Yourself at Risk When Taking the Car to the Shop
Another thing that you should not do is put yourself at risk when taking the car to the shop. If your windshield is damaged in a way that will make it difficult for you to see when you're driving, then you should either use a mobile auto glass service or have your car towed to the shop. Otherwise, you could be at risk of getting in an accident when you're on the way to the shop.
3. Hire the Wrong Auto Glass Repair Professional
Don't take your car to just any shop for auto glass repair or replacement. Instead, look for a repair shop that you can count on to do a good job, even if it will cost a little more.
4. Drive Your Car Too Soon After Installation
After you have a new windshield installed, you should not make the mistake of driving your car too soon. Typically, you need to wait a little while before driving your car so that your new windshield will fully set in place. Someone from the auto glass shop should be able to tell you more about this waiting period.
5. Pay Out of Pocket for Your Windshield Repair or Replacement
Lastly, when it's time for you to pay for your windshield repair or replacement, you don't necessarily have to whip out your own credit card. Instead, you might be able to file a claim with your insurance company. Determine if this is an option before paying for your windshield repair or replacement so that you can save a little bit of money.
