District. Tonight we’ll feast on a special Italian
Welcome Dinner featuring local delicacies. (Inflight

DAY 3: VERONA - VENICE
Following breakfast at our hotel, we travel to
Verona, home of Romeo and Juliet and their epic love
story. Here you can see Juliet’s famous statue
before continuing to Venice, the city between the
sea and the sky. Venice is located on the Gulf of
Venice and is built upon 118 islands separated by
narrow canals. The city is home to many artisans
skilled in the art of glass-blowing. The remainder
of the day is at leisure with dinner at our hotel. (B,D)
DAY 4: VENICE
This morning we take a guided tour of the city’s
canals and monuments. Our first stop will be St.
Mark’s Square, the famous home of thousands of
pigeons and the magnificent Basilica devoted to St.
Mark the Evangelist. The Basilica was built from1063
- 1073 in a curious mingling of Byzantine and
western styles to shelter St. Mark’s tomb. It’s been
given the name “The Golden Church” because of its
rich decoration of marble and mosaics on gilded
backgrounds. We will also visit Doge’s Palace, built
in the 12th century as the home of the Duke of
Venice. Our afternoon is at leisure - perhaps take a
lagoon cruise or a romantic gondola ride this
evening after dinner at our hotel. (B,D)
DAY 5:
VENICE - PISA - FLORENCE
This morning we head for Bologna, the capital city
of the Emilia-Romagna region. Our city tour will
include the famous university and the huge Basilica
of San Petronio. We then take the short drive to the
Apennines mountain range passing picturesque Italian
villages before reaching the city of Pisa. Here we
can view the famous Leaning Tower and the superb
marbled Baptistery before continuing to Florence. (B,D)
DAY 6: FLORENCE
Located in the heart of the Tuscan region, Florence
has produced such famous artists as Leonardo da
Vinci, Dante and Michelangelo. Our tour of Florence
will include a visit to the Piazza del Duomo to see
its massive bronze “Gates of Paradise,” the 13th
century Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the
Giotto Tower, Gallery of Fine Arts to see
Michelangelo’s famous “David”, the Church of Santa
Croce where Michelangelo is buried, and a visit to
an Italian leather workshop. The afternoon will be
free for sightseeing or shopping in Florence.
Tonight, enjoy an authentic Renaissance Dinner
complete with traditional menu, wines, music and
costumes of the era. (B,D)
DAY 7: FLORENCE - SORRENTO
Travel south towards Sorrento. On the way visit the
Abbey of Monte Cassino, which is the Mother House of
the Benedictine order founded by St. Benedict in
529. Visit the town of Monte Cassino, the site of a
crucial and fierce World War II battle. See the
battle monument, which pays tribute to the men who
lost their lives here. We will stay in beautiful
Sorrento tonight. (B,D)
DAY 8: SORRENTO - CAPRI
Following breakfast, you’ll jetfoil across the blue
bay to the beautiful Isle of Capri, a royal retreat
for 2,000 years, for a fantastic afternoon of
sightseeing including its capital, Anacapri. We will
have lunch in one of Capri’s oldest restaurants
overlooking the Bay of Naples before returning to
Sorrento. (B,L)
DAY 9: POMPEII - ROME
We will begin our day with a visit to Pompeii; the
Roman city both destroyed and preserved by an
eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Take in sights
such as patrician homes, public baths and commercial
districts effectively recalling day-to-day life when
Rome was at the height of her power. We will
continue on to Rome where dinner will be waiting for
us at our hotel. (B,D)
DAY 10: ROME
Today we tour the “Eternal City” of Rome. Rome is
located on the Tiber River and is Italy’s capital
city. Rome has become one of the world’s most
important cities for art, architecture, and the
fashion industry. We’ll see all the famous sites
including the beautiful Piazza Venezia, the Spanish
Steps, St. Peter’s Square, the Colosseum and the
Roman Forum. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
(B,D)
DAY 11: ROME
Following breakfast we will tour the Vatican, the
world’s smallest independent state. See St. Peter’s
Basilica and the Vatican Museum, which hosts the
Sistine Chapel and the most remarkable works of art
in the world. If available, we will attend an
audience with the Pope. Our Farewell Dinner tonight
will feature a classic Roman banquet. (B,D)
