Itinerary: |

DAY 1 & 2: USA - BRUSSELS - MAASTRICHT
We’ll depart the USA today, bound for Brussels,
Belgium. Once we arrive in Brussels, we will
embark on a panoramic city sightseeting tour. In
the heart of Brussels is the Grand Place, the
most beautiful square in the world. We’ll also
view St. Michael’s Cathedral, famous for its
16th-century stained-glass windows, as well as
the Palace of Justice, and Manneken Pis, the
oldest and most honored bourgeois of Brussels.
After our tour, we’ll transfer to Maastricht,
where we’ll have the rest of the day at our
leisure. We’ll enjoy dinner at our hotel
tonight. (Inflight meals,D)
DAY 3: AMSTERDAM
Following breakfast, we’ll head to the northern
province and the 17th-century city of Amsterdam.
The first impression of Amsterdam may be its
museum-like quality. Over 6,700 buildings in the
core of the city are protected monuments,
virtually intact from the Golden Age during the
time the city rose to spectacular wealth,
political power, and cultural heights. After
visiting this beautiful area, we’ll have dinner
at a local restaurant before heading back to our
hotel in Maastricht. (B,D)
DAY 4: COUNTRY TOUR OF BELGIUM, GERMANY &
HOLLAND
Our day starts with a drive through the Duke’s
forest into Germany, through the Limburg
countryside, known as “Little Switzerland” and
into the lovely little town of Monschau, a
picture-perfect, medieval town where
half-timbered houses decorated with flower boxes
border narrow, cobblestone streets. We’ll have
time to explore this city before heading to the
town of Eupen, which became a Belgian possession
through the “Treaty of Versailles”. We’ll spend
some time discovering the city of Eupen before
passing back through the Duke’s forest and into
the city of Liege. Once we arrive, we’ll embark
on a city sightseeing tour, including a visit to
the Citadelle. We’ll then return for dinner at
our hotel. (B,D)
DAY 5: COLOGNE - RHINE RIVER CRUISE
Another great day of sightseeing awaits us as we
travel east to Cologne, along the Rhine River.
We’ll visit the beautiful Gothic cathedral. Then
we will follow the Rhine River south to the
small village of St. Goar, where we will board a
steamer for a cruise along the Rhine, through
the famous Lorelei area, passing ancient
riverside villages and castles that crown the
hillsides, and into Boppard. We’ll then re-board
our motorcoach for the drive back to Maastricht,
where we’ll enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
(B)
DAY 6: GHENT & BRUGES EXCURSION
After breakfast we will visit the wonderful old
Belgian city of Ghent, one of the few cities in
the world where the past and the present rub
shoulders with each other. It’s glory lies in
its industrious and rebellious past. There are
sharp contrasts between the sumptuous lifestyle
of a prosperous class of entrepreneurs and the
characteristics of a densely populated town of
factory workers. This is the way Ghent should be
looked at: raw and also full of grace, surly and
aristocratic too. By far, the most impressive
building in Ghent is St. Bavo’s Cathedral, which
houses the famous Jan van Eyck painting, “The
Adoration of the Mystic Lamb,” painted in 1432.
In the afternoon, we’ll move on to Bruges where
we will take a canal cruise. As you glide
through the city, you’ll get a feel for way
Bruges would have been like hundreds of years
ago. Before returning to Maastricht, we’ll enjoy
dinner at a local restaurant in Bruges. (B,D)
DAY 7: LUXEMBOURG - PARIS
This morning we see an area steeped in American
history as we travel through Belgium’s Ardennes
Region, through Bastogne, which was the site of
World War II’s historic “Battle of the Bulge,”
and into the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
(Luxembourg City). Once we arrive, we’ll enjoy a
sightseeing tour, including the American
Military Cemetery and General Patton’s Tomb.
We’ll then continue to Paris, France where we’ll
spend the next two nights. (B)
DAY 8: PARIS
Enjoy a leisurely city tour of Paris, the City
of Lights, undoubtedly the most glamorous of the
European Capitals. Surround yourself with
picture-perfect images as we tour the Eiffel
Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, visit bookstalls
along the Seine and the gardens surrounding the
Louvre. Paris is filled with historic landmarks,
the most celebrated being Notre Dame Cathedral,
which we will tour. You will have time to pursue
your own desires. Tonight we will enjoy a
fantastic farewell dinner. (B,D)
DAY 9: PARIS - USA
This morning we’ll transfer to the airport for
our flight back home with wonderful memories and
new friends. (B,Inflight meals) |
