Itinerary: |

DAY 1 & 2: USA - FLORENCE
We board our flight today bound for Italy. Enjoy
complimentary in-flight services including dinner
and breakfast being served prior to landing. We
arrive at the airport and meet our English-speaking
escort and driver. Board our deluxe motor coach and
head to the nearby spa resort town of Montecatini,
our home for the next seven nights. Montecatini is
situated in the northern part of Tuscany, just
outside of Florence, in the heart of the Italian art
cradle. There will be time to unpack and relax. One
of the many highlights of this tour is that there is
no “packing and unpacking” . . . a relaxed way to
experience this wonderful region of Italy. Our first
real Italian meal is served this evening in the
dining room. (Inflight meals,D)
DAY 3: PISA
After breakfast, enjoy an easy day. In the late
morning we will be escorted to Pisa, just an hour
away. The square of Mirades contains some
breathtaking monuments: the Leaning Tower, the
Cathedral, the Baptistry, the monumental cemetery
and the Opa Museum. Take the time to visit this
famous town. It is easy to explore, as everything is
located within a few hundred yards. Maybe taste a
local cappuccino at one of the cafes on the square.
(B,D)
DAY 4: FLORENCE
Today we’ll travel to the heart of the Tuscan region
and the city of Florence, which has produced such
famous artists as Leonardo da Vinci, Dante and
Michelangelo. Our tour of Florence will include a
visit to the Piazza del Duomo to see its massive
bronze “Gates of Paradise,” Signoria Square, the
13th century Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the
Giotto Tower, Gallery of Fine Arts to see
Michelangelo’s famous “David”, the Church of Santa
Croce where Michelangelo is buried, and a visit to
an Italian leather workshop. The afternoon will be
free for sightseeing or shopping in Florence.
Tonight, enjoy an authentic Renaissance Dinner
complete with traditional menu, wines, music and
costumes of the era. (B,D)
DAY 5: SIENA
Today we’ll tour Siena, in the heart of Tuscany. Our
escort will lead us to the Piazza del Campo and will
introduce us to this ancient Tuscan capitol, a
fascinating art town. This is the site of the most
famous “palio” in all of Italy. This race of men on
horseback, held twice a year, is charged with
electricity as the competitors race around the town
square at a furious pace. Take the time to explore
the museums and churches of Siena and reserve at
least one hour to have a look at the glamorous shops
of the Via dei Banchi de Sopra. (Enrichment evening)
This evening, join your tour director for an
educational program on the history of Italian art.
Enjoy refreshments prior to dinner as we review and
discuss the artwork we’ll be seeing. (B,D)
DAY 6: CARRARA - PORTOFINO
A leisurely drive this morning brings us to the town
of Carrara, home to the most famous marble quarries
in the world. As we continue north, the blue sea
winks at you through the breaks in the mountains,
until we arrive in the most picturesque cove on the
Italian Riviera, Portofino. With its colorful houses
and cobblestone streets, it will provide an
unforgetable Mediterranean experience. You will have
time to enjoy meandering through this classic
Italian village before returning to our hotel. (B,D)
DAY 7: SAN GIMIGNANO
Today, we admire the many towers, once the
skyscrapers of the 13th and 14th centuries, of San
Gimignano. This is considered to be perhaps the
best-preserved medieval village in Italy. Enjoy our
lunchtime strolling around the tiny streets leading
to the top of the village. Perhaps stop in one of
the many cafes and small trattorias for a sandwich
and a “gelato” . . . Italian ice cream. As we drive
south through the Italian wine country this
afternoon, our stop will include a farm to taste the
local superb wine. (Enrichment evening) This evening
join your tour manager for a “Taste of Tuscany”.
Enjoy local wines and educational program on the
local wine industry. (B,D)
DAY 8: MONTECATINI
Today you are free to enjoy Montecatini, this
upscale spa town. Or perhaps you will want to join
in an optional excursion to Assisi or Venice. (B,D)
DAY 9: FLORENCE - USA
Today we will be transferred back to Florence where
we will board our flight back to the USA, with fond
memories of our Tuscany Delight. (B,Inflight meals) |
