 Detailed Itinerary:

DAY 1 & 2: USA - NICE
We begin our French Riviera discovery today with our flight to Nice, France. Sit back, relax and enjoy all the in-flight amenities. Arrive in Nice today where we will be met at the airport and transferred to our hotel, home for the next 7 nights. There will be time to relax before the Welcome Reception with our Tour Manager tonight. Few places in the world have the same pull on the imagination as the French Riviera, stretching along the Mediterranean coastline from St. Tropez in the west to the Italian border in the east. Cooled by the Mediterranean in the summer and warmed by it in the winter, the climate is almost always pleasant. (Inflight meals)

DAY 3: NICE
Our morning begins with a city tour of Nice, the unofficial capital of the Cote d’Azur. Seen from the hill above the Old Town, the cityscape sparkles with its splendid hotels and pastel villas filling the curving flank of the Bay of Angels. There are major museums, sophisticated shops, music and opera, as well as a long history inscribed in medieval artwork and Baroque churches. Drive along the world famous Promenade des Anglais lined with magnificent palms and planted with vibrantly colored vegetation. We continue to old town to see the spectacular flower market and the Jesuit Church of St. Jacques. Tonight enjoy a Welcome Dinner at our hotel. (B,D)

DAY 4: ST. PAUL DE VENCE - GRASSE EXCURSION
The picture-book medieval village of St. Paul-de-Vence stands hidden behind its ramparts and is the Provence in a “nutshell”. St. Paul-de-Vence was rediscovered only in the 1920’s by a group of painters. The painter Chagall lived here and is entombed here. With its picturesque square, the village is full of artist’s studios, antique shops and craft galleries reached by cobblestone pathways. This afternoon we make our way to Grasse. This region is the principal center of the worldwide perfume industry, and its many small distilleries provide the essences to leading perfume manufacturers in Paris, London, Rome and New York. Included in our tour is a visit to the distillery of Parfumeur Galimard founded in 1747. Learn first-hand how the flowers of the region - roses, mimosa, lavender and jasmine - are processed to provide the fragrant scents that are the basis of all perfumes. Under the instruction of a “Nose”, you will formulate your own unique perfume or cologne. (B,D)

DAY 5: CANNES

Today begins with a city tour of Cannes. “Discovered” by Lord Brougham in 1834, Cannes soon became a community for the international elite and is synonymous with the International Film Festival. We will see the Palais des Festivals with its lovely harbor and La Croisiette, perhaps one of the most elegant seaside promenades in the world. The old town - Le Suquet-, is still a delicious maze of medieval streets and Renaissance houses. Our afternoon is at leisure on the French Riviera, take advantage of shopping or just relaxing in the soothing Mediterranean breezes. (B,D)

DAY 6: MONTE CARLO - EZE
Sure to be a highlight is our excursion to Monaco today. Monaco is an independent principality about half the size of New York City’s Central Park, with a population of 27,000. Steeped in the history of the famous Grimaldi family, it is divided into four areas: Monaco-Ville, the old city and seat of the government; La Condamine, mainly a residential area; Monte Carlo, the site of the well-known casino and a glittering center of international social life; and Fontvieille, which has developed into an industrial and residential complex. All of Monaco is contained within an area of less than 1 square mile. Our city tour will include entrance into the 19th-century Romanesque Cathedral, the sight of Princess Grace’s tomb. We continue to the medieval village of Eze, perched 1,000 feet above the Mediterranean Sea for fantastic views. (B,L)

DAY 7: ST. TROPEZ - WINE REGION
Depart for St. Tropez this morning with a leisurely 60-mile drive along the beautiful coastline. See the magnificent homes on the hillsides and cliffs overlooking the sea on what is considered to be one of the most beautiful coastal drives in the world. We will also visit an often forgotten World War II landing site in the area. On arrival in St. Tropez, we’ll have an orientation tour of this scenic town. Enjoy views of the beaches before returning to Nice. (B)

DAY 8: SAN REMO, ITALY
Today experience the historic Roman Road as we venture into the beautiful Riviera Liguria. 20 miles away we visit San Remo, Italy’s oldest and largest winter health resort. Our route to San Remo takes us through tunnels that open on to floral vistas as we make our way through the flower-growing region of Italy. The economy of this region is based on the production of olive oil. After an orientation tour of San Remo we will have time to experience the wonderful Italian Marketplace. Tonight we’ll enjoy our Farewell Dinner while reminiscing with our traveling companions. (B,D)
