Itinerary: |

DAY 1 & 2: USA - AMSTERDAM
Today we board our flight to Amsterdam, where upon
arrival, our tour manager will escort us to our
hotel then we will have a chance to relax, shop or
explore for the rest of the day. (Inflight meals)
DAY 3: AMSTERDAM
The capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is
renowned for its magnificent museums, colorful
gardens, and an abundance of bicycles and endless
latticework of canals. History and culture are ever
present in this 800-year-old city where you can
explore the Rijksmuseum filled with works of
Rembrandt and other Dutch masters or tour the famous
bulb fields of South Holland. Hear of the incredible
tale of 17th century “tulip mania” and visit the
extraordinary flower park of Keukenhof. We will have
a Welcome dinner tonight at our hotel. (B,D)
DAY 4: MS HELVETIA
Today we will transfer to the MS Helvetia. From the
moment you step on board, you will find yourself
amidst a world of casual elegance. Created
specifically for river cruising, these modern
“floating hotels” feature expanses of panoramic
windows allowing passengers to enjoy the river’s
splendors. (B,D)
DAY 5: AMSTERDAM - NIJMEGEN
Today’s canal boat ride will provide a different
perspective, one that highlights the amazing
architecture of Amsterdam’s Golden Age. Then it’s
off to Nijmegen. (B,L,D)
DAY 6: NIJMEGEN - COLOGNE
Nijmegen, an inland shipping center, who’s principal
landmarks in Nijmegen include the 13th-century
Groote Kerk (Great Church), a museum of Roman
antiquities, and the 16th-century Renaissance town
hall. The city is the site of the Roman Catholic
University of Nijmegen. This evening we depart for
Cologne. (B,L,D)
DAY 7: COLOGNE - WINNINGEN
Today on our City Tour we will discover that Cologne
is a wonderful mix of old and new. The city’s Roman
heritage is evident in its city layout and by its
scattered ancient ruins. Meanwhile, its more modern
plazas and the Hohe-Strasse, a pedestrian-only
shopping zone, provide ideal shopping, lively bars
and wonderful German restaurants. The world-famous
Eau de Cologne toilet water is made here. Its 14th
century Gothic Cathedral, the largest in Europe,
represents the supreme artistry of the period. This
evening we will have a Moselle Wine Tasting in the
village of Winningen. (B,L,D)
DAY 8: WINNINGEN - KOBLENZ - RUDESHEIM
Departing Winningen we will stop in Koblenz, where
those wishing to take the excursion to the Moselle
Valley and a walking tour of Cochem (considered by
many to be one of the most beautiful towns in the Moselle Valley) may do so, rejoining the ship in
Rudesheim. For those staying to explore Koblenz, it
is filled with traditional German elegance and
charm. Founded more than 2,000 years ago, it has
grown to become the business and cultural center of
the Middle Rhine Region. Visit the Princes’
Electoral Palace (“Residenz Schloss”), a one of
Germany’s best examples of Neoclassic architecture,
or the Ehrenbreitstein, Europe’s oldest fortress.
Then we are off to Rudesheim. (B,L,D)
DAY 9: RUDESHEIM - MANNHEIM
Rüdesheim, a charming town set along the Rhine
River, is the chief center of the Rhine wine
industry. Walk along the famed Drosselgasse, a
tavern-lined, cobblestone street that attracts
locals and visitors alike. Half-timber medieval
houses, narrow streets, and old inns give the town a
medieval character. Visit 9th century Bromserburg,
the oldest on the Rhine or take a mini train ride to
Seigfried’s Mechanical Music Museum. We will arrive
this evening in Mannheim, a major river port at the
confluence of the Rhine and Neckar rivers, across
the Rhine from Ludwigshafen. The city’s points of
interest include a large 18th-century baroque
castle, now the seat of Mannheim’s university; a
fine-arts museum with a notable collection of 19th-
and 20th-century painting; and the Reiss Municipal
Museum, featuring displays on the decorative arts
and local history. It is from Mannheim we will have
our Heidleberg excursion. Heidleberg is a quaint
German town with beautiful architecture, reminiscent
of the Baroque period. Its most famous site is
Heidleberg Castle. (B,L,D)
DAY 10:
MANNHEIM -STRASBOURG
We depart Mannheim for our next port, Strasbourg,
France. The multicultural city of Strasbourg
maintains its French and German influences based on
its geographic settlement along the Rhine River at
the border of both countries. Carefully restored,
the Cathedral of Notre Dame contains a combination
of architectural styles. It is most recognizable for
its 465-foot tall, graceful spires. Another landmark
is the 18th century Chateau des Rohan, which houses
three of the city’s major museums. (B,L,D)
DAY 11:
STRASBOURG - LUCERNE
Our last stop on the cruise portion of our tour will
be Basel, positioned along the Rhine, Basel sits
where the French, German and Swiss borders meet and
marks the gateway to the Swiss Rhineland. Its
cobblestone streets, 18th century buildings and
three surviving medieval gates reflect the city’s
historical and cultural past. A cultural center,
Basel is home to many museums including the Museum
of Fine Arts, which features masterpieces by famous
artists Picasso and Dali among others. Once
disembarked, our tour manager will guide us to our
deluxe motorcoach for a tour of Basel en route to
Lucerne, Switzerland, where we will have the balance
of the day at leisure. (B,L)
DAY 12: LUCERNE
We will tour our host city - Lucerne, and see one of
the world’s most famous monuments, the Lion’s
Monument. Spectacularly carved from natural rock,
this monument commemorates the heroic death of Swiss
mercenaries in 1792. We will also see the Chapel
Bridge, Jesuit Church and City Hall. Our afternoon
is at leisure. Tonight we will enjoy our Farewell
Dinner, featuring great entertainment with yodeling
and the famous dances of the area. (B,D)
DAY 13: LUCERNE - USA
We depart Lucerne, as we travel to Zurich where we
board our flight headed home, filled with fond
memories of these special lands. (B,Inflight)
